IJF asks: What have you just finished?
I just finished kicking off a blog series to promote my novel "Love...Like Snow In Florida On A Hot Summer Day." I plan to do a total of 7 blogs that relate to marriage and infidelity in todays marriage.
IJF asks: What book(s) have been life changing for you?
Books that were life changing for me would be, "Between Lovers" by Eric Jerome Dickey; "Men Cry In The Dark" by Michael Baisden; and "My Soul To Keep" by Tananarive Due. I chose these three books not because they have any significant message, but because it was meeting these three authors at the beginning of their careers, at a book fair in New Orleans, that inspired me to pursue my dreams of becoming a writer.
IJF asks: Can you tell us your best fan encounter story?
The most memorable encounter I have had with a reader was when a former co-worker came to me while reading "He Loves Me He Loves me Not!" There is a scene in the book where the main character acknowledges that she hates when men give her red roses because it is usually in response to him messing up. The same day she read this passage in the book her (now ex) husband sent her a beautiful bouquet of red roses. She shared with me that, like the main character, she too hated red roses. Reading this book, she said, gave her the courage to walk away from a bad marriage and regain her self-esteem, and control of her destiny.
Who are your heroes in real life?
My heroes would be the wonderful staff at Nina Harris Fundamental, where my daughter Jasmin was a student for 19 years. Jasmin is Autistic and I believe it requires a very special person to commit their life to caring for and educating children with special needs.
Who are your favorite fictional characters?
I do not really have a favorite fictional character, probably because I am not a fan of sequels and series. I just love strong characters that love and celebrate life, who choose not to be the victim.
What is your favorite way of spending time?
Any time spent with family and friends is time well spent. I also enjoy walking over to a local waterfront park where I write, read, or just reflect.
